The heavy storm ended during the night
It delivered snow; clean, fresh, pure and white
The ski slope glistens in the morning sunlight
It beckons me early, it will so delight.
I affix my helmet and I dress in a costume.
It’s a Colorado Bluebird, let’s go, vroom vroom!
I forge my way to the grand chairlift
I flash my pass, and think “this day, what a gift”
I ride the chairlift high above the trees
The air is frigid, I might freeze
Finally at the top, I prepare my skis
I must get started before I seize.
I jump off the lift and prepare for the run
First tracks and in the full sun!!!
Standing at the top of the trail named Dynamo
Overlooking the sea of moguls below
My skis point downward preparing to go
Ready to track all this fresh snow.
The cares of the world become obsolete
My spine stretches upwards like a proud athlete
The music pipes into my ears with a clear beat
I think to myself oh what a magical treat.
I push to the edge, my skis overhang
I peer downward and feel a sharp pang
This is steeper than I remembered, Oh Dang
And then off I leap with a soulful bang!
I pick up speed and plant my ski pole
I shift my weight to remain in control
There is absolutely no room for delay
I plan my next turn it’s a second away
I aim for the trough, I carve a new turn
The weight of the snow makes my legs burn
I scoop up the snow with the tips of my skis
The snow flurries fly and land on my cheeks
I check my balance and then I check my knees
My knees are together, I float with ease
My skis move faster as they carve the way down
Weight shifting, skis turning, snow billowing and no one around
My body moves to the be musical beat
Muscles tingling, poles planting, body moving, generating heat
Confidence building, feeling complete
Then, without warning, Yard Sale
Loads of Love to one of the sweetest bosses i have ever worked for. Golden Heart and as transparent as a glass. Have fun Madam.
Yard Sale complete, she’s back on her feet
A little embarrassed, but she’s still in one piece
Off she goes, wind on her wet cheeks,
She continues her run, she’s been waiting for weeks
Slip sliding away, skies back and forth slashin’
No care in the world, for those skiing for fashion
Cruisin’ to a stop, as she ends this fine run
She smiles, just knowing, retirement’s just begun!
