Throw the Ball
Throw the Ball

Throw the Ball

Persistent, ferocious, obsessed, focused
That is my Iris.

She looks at me
She looks at ball
C’mon, Karen, kick it,
Hard, down the hall

She implores; I ignore;

She squeaks, she speaks,
I look and smirk,
I say “I can’t
play now, must work”

She is very obsessed
I can firmly attest.

She winces, she wines
I hem and haw
I kick the ball.

It bounces, she pounces,
It hits the wall.

She races, she chases,
She scoops up ball
She runs down hall
She drops at feet
So we can repeat!

That is my Iris!

Iris-with-ball
My favorite place to play

As one who has spent many hours playing ball with this little Iris girl, I can say that this poem describes her perfectly! So much fun and such a loyal and loving dog.
