We needed to start going home and there was this town on the map called Kanab. I have never heard of it, but, decided we would aim for that. WOW! What a surprise and we will go back for sure and spend more time there. It is sort of like Montrose, Colorado – it serves more like a base camp to this area. We really liked it. There is one stoplight in town. We got there a little late and had not had lunch and took a rare occasion to go out to lunch. We ate at Wild Thyme and it was fantastic. We sat on the deck outside and enjoyed a couple of drinks. The dogs were with us (first outside deck with them) and they were not awful. They were not that good, but, not awful. And, our server brought out a doggie water bowl. How awesome is that?
Our morning adventure included a hike at Lick Wash which was a less traveled slot canyon. We were the only ones there when we parked and so dogs were leashless. AND, Iris was just running like crazy. We went about 8 miles and she went about 32 miles. Lick Wash isn’t known to be a spectacular slot canyon, but, it was our first and we enjoyed it very much.
Now I want to do more slot canyons and apparently around this area in Utah, there are many. One canyon that I wanted to do mentions that you can take your dog, but, not to take any dog more than 40 pounds (cuz you end up having to lift them through some obstacles). I am confident that Iris could get through anything, but, Sunny had a little issue with one obstacle in this easy canyon. We had to lift him up about 4 feet and he is 80 pounds. I put my name into a lottery for August. Let’s see if we can get a permit for “The Wave”.
The next day was the end of the trip. We booked it home through Page, Arizona and Lake Powell. Although Page had not been on my list of places to go, it is now. But, you will need a big fat wallet it appears, by the time you rent your boats/jet-skis/hotels etc.
