Hungry Mother State Park in Virginia

Marion Virginia

After our disappointing news that we couldn’t connect our TOAD, we landed in lovely Marion Virginia. We were happy in our location at Hungry Mother State Park albeit we think the name is weird. The story of the name wasn’t very satisfying either. But, to each their own. The campground at the park was nice and again we had grass and trails.

Drive in

Marion had a drive in movie theater in town and we were one of the first to see Top Gun Maverick and enjoyed ourselves. The dogs came too and shared in the popcorn. I wish we had planned ahead a little bit as we did have a truck bed and everyone else showed up with their lawn chairs for their truck bed. We definitely would have enjoyed that. We are so out of practice!

Memorial Day Display

We went into town on Memorial Day and were very moved by their display in front of their government buildings on Main Street.

Getting Five More Tires

When we were in Tennessee, the technician who fixed our tires indicated that our existing tires were getting close to their useful life so we were confronted with a new choice. Should we take our chance and keep our existing tires or should we get new ones? Based on our luck so far, we had decided that we might as well get it done. We had seen how easy it had been to replace a tire and we found a “guy” online who would ship tires to our next location and get them installed while we were in the campground. In the end, it worked out, but, it was a little more of a challenge. This technician in Virginia had never done this before! He didn’t know how to access the lug nuts so luckily, Rich had done this before. Long story short, we got 5 new tires (so now in essence we are driving on 6 new tires). I am glad it is done but I think we were a little ahead of ourselves there. We probably could have waited another couple of months and done it at the end of the trip.

The TOAD at Roanoke Camping World

And, so it goes — we were able to get really good service in Roanoke VA Camping World and they gave us an appointment on our Moving Day. They diagnosed and corrected the electrical error, double checked the air brakes, installed the backup camera, and fixed a problem with a headlight. We hung out there all day without a car since they needed both the RV and the TOAD for the work. But, hopefully, it would work. We had to drive to some park in West Virginia that was another 100 miles away but we didn’t leave Camping World until 4:30 pm. We didn’t do any final testing and didn’t hook up. We were nervous and just wanted to get going. So, we think everything will work, but, will it? Who KNOWS!
