Tulip & George

Now that we are retired, we purchased a small camper and have decided to head out on our first journey. We left Ridgway while it was snowing and we are heading to Utah to find sun if not warmth. Our camper is named Tulip, in search of the eternal spring, and George is her faithful servant.

We are taking Sunny and Iris, the worlds worst behaved dogs and we will be working on our manners as we travel. For now, let’s just say, our manners are lousy. We bark and carry on every time we see a dog, we try to leap out of the car at every stop, and we jump on new people we meet. Although they appear to be docile little creatures while driving, just throw a dog or new human into the mix and you will see a surprise.

We arrived at Dead Horse Point State Park, backed into our campsite, and had our first night on the road. We grilled some sausages and figured out how to connect our camper to electricity. We took a short walk to check out our surroundings and it was beautiful. We had no internet and no cell service at this park; it was very peaceful. Tulip is equipped with a TV (no channels that were discoverable), a radio (we listened to Moab Community Radio for awhile where the guy played jazz and gave commentary), and then connected my phone and enjoyed some downloaded music.

We are about 2000 feet higher than the Colorado River on the valley floor. The mountains in the background are the La Sal Mountains.
